🩰SELF CARE
Most vlogs of Song Jia are related to self care. If you check her comment section too , you will see others commenting about how she inspired them to take care of themselves and it's true. Song Jia takes exquisite care of herself . Treat yourself like you want to be treated by others. Taking care of ourselves will make us look better and when we look good , we feel good too ! Self care is also a way of putting ourselves first and fulfilling our own needs. It's not selfish or wrong , it's necessary and will make you feel energetic. Jia takes good care of herself - her skin , hair , body etc .
1)🩰 Skincare
First , Jia washes her face and then uses a mist instead of a toner. Then she uses ampoule . Jia said that if someone has dry skin like her , the k booster ampoule can help them alot . If this ampoule seems way too expensive , then she recommended NEOGEN. Then, Jia uses Hyaluron Performance Serum. According to Jia , being consistent & diligent will help one to improve their skin. Incase someone has messed up skin where their pores expand alot , Jia recommended one more ampoule, Jericho Rose Bifida Serum Filming Drop. Jia also recommended ATOBARRIER365 Cream , the cream fills all the damaged skin barriers. She uses this cream mandatorily. If you are going to use makeup , then put on a sunscreen. If you aren't going to use makeup and will go out naturally then you need put on a layer . You can maintain it moisturized. Jia used Timeless Intensive Care cream, the cream may look heavy for those who have dry skin like Jia . Also use the cream on neck too since neck gets old really fast so care for your neck too !! Jia uses Collagen Eye Cream Jericho Rose tube , she said that she always used eye cream since eye rim & neck get wrinkles easily & skin of eye rim get dry faster than other parts of our body. She uses eye cream mandatorily. This is a routine followed by Jia at home. Incase , she is going outside , she puts Centella Soothing Sheet Mask. She takes great care of her neck too , she uses Two creams for her neck, one is Collagen bouncing elasticity cream & the other is Ultra Radiance Base Concentrate Mask. Also you can put the leftover cream on your elbow. Not only skincare but pillowcase is also important. Wash the pillowcase often so you don't get skin problems. Don't touch your face with dirty hands. Try not to put the cellphone on your face . Jia mentioned it alot of times that consistency is important if one wants to improve their skin . It's okay you can't buy the products she mentioned , just try to follow the simple tips given by her . Jia routine can be used as inspiration. Jia also gets facial treatments . You can take inspiration from her to have a skincare routine .
2🩰) Workout
Jia does light exercises - stretching & pilates . In her recent video , Jia recommended alot of exercises to maintain good posture. Since she has majored in dance, she naturally has a good posture . In her recent interview , she shared how her friends left her & she shares everything with her mom. The scandal was stupid & I feel there are more serious topics to be concerned about than someone wearing fake clothes , and alot of public figures are doing alot of illegal & problematic stuff . Real Skincare Guide
Level 1: breakouts, non-painful, a little scarring
Minimize your skincare routine, all you need is an oil cleanser (if you wear a lot of makeup) than a good foam cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen. Repeat the same routine before bed just without the sunscreen.
Wear sunscreen everyday!!!
Always apply more moisturizer than you think you need.
Drink a lot of water (2-3LT)
Get consistent sleep
Take a multi vitamins to balance your hormones. I recommend the One-A-Day Woman’s Vitamins (get a real pill cause the gummies don’t have enough iron)
Work on your stress (breathe work, meditate, journal, yoga, walks, going out with friends, therapy, etc)
Look at what body oils/shampoo/conditioner you are using. Could be your akin reacting poorly to something in there.
Level 2: consistant breakouts, acne, scarring
All the stuff for Level 1 apply.
Minimize your skincare routine and than slowly add back in stuff like hydrochloric acid and retinol. Having an elaborate skincare will just make your skin worse. First, focus on healing your skin barrier.
If you are a teenager, it just might be your hormones/growing pains. It will go away eventually.
Pimple Patches work and are especially good if you are trying to stop touching your face.
Wash your pillow cases every 1-2 weeks.
Try to sleep on your back.
If you pop a pimple than apply an antibiotic ointment.
No point in using anti-aging products if you are under the age of 25. It just won’t do anything for you.
Note that if you take in a lot of nicotine you will breakout. If you smoke and you have bad skin, it probably won’t improve unless you quit or lessen the dosage.
Level 3: painful consistent breakouts/acne/scars, redness, irritability, hurts,
Go see a dermatologist!
Acne is can be a real problem. If your acne is painful seek professional help.
If Accutane is recommended, than I would do it. Based only on the experiences of my friends, I have seen great results after a couple months. There are side effects and it is not for everyone but if a professional says you should than I might consider it.
No topical treatment is going to make those scars go away. You are going to need to laser resurfacing which is like this secret treatment rich people do to clear up their skin. It is expensive but really works. Beauty brands want you to think that the right cream can clear up your skin but if you have bad scarring you are only going to see real results with laser treatments
All of the above recommendations still apply
Your acne does not take away from your beauty or your worth as a human being. Remember that acne is normal and social media is fake.
Product Recommandations:
Disclaimer: Not every product will work for every skin type. Do your research for what will be beat for you!
Korean skincare! It is reliable to buy from yesstyle or Olive young. Don’t buy on amazon. (Japanese skincare is good too)

A bit about how spiders eat their meals.
Soup is back on the menu boys! In fact, it never left the menu. Soup all day, every day. Which is something us autumnal folk and our arachnid friends have in common.
I’ve talked a bit about the chemical makeup of spider silk in another post (which you can find under my ‘spiders (and some other arachnids)’ tag), but for the purpose of this post, I’ll break it down:
Spider silks, scientifically, are categorised as ‘Spidroins’, of which there are many types, making the analysis very complex. There were originally thought to be two types of one MaSp (Major Ampullate Silk Protein - or dragline silk): spidroin-1 and spidroin-2, however with progression in research, there have been revealed to be many more.
Spidroins are part of a large group of proteins called Scleroproteins, of which we have a few, too, including collagen proteins and keratins.
There are seven main kinds of spider silk used to construct webs and snare prey, however in this post I’ll be talking mainly about AcSp2 (Aciniform Spidroin - the spidroin responsible for the webs constructed to wrap prey).
First, the spider wraps their prey in the AcSp2 spidroin (the snare). Then, they begin to digest the prey externally, their digestive fluids reducing both the prey and the AcSp2 web fibres to soup.
For the most part, the exact contents of spider digestive fluid is unknown, however one study of the Uloborus Sp. (Feather legged lace weaver, North America) examined the midgut protein content (I’ll link my sources below).
Proteins found in this spider’s midgut include peptidases (both endo and exopeptidases: cisteine, serine and metallopeptidases.), carbohydrases (alpha-amylase, chitinase and alpha mannosidase) and lipases.
Peptidases are involved in the degradation of proteins. Carbohydrases break down carbohydrates - chitinase is responsible for breaking down chitin (found in the exoskeletons of insects). Lipases break down fats.
Among these digestive enzymes, toxins were also identified: enzymes thought only to be unique to venomous spiders were also found in the guts of non venomous spiders, such as Sphingomyelinase D, suggesting a common origin between digestive enzymes and those found in venoms.
From what I can gather, Sphingomyelinase D (a phospholipase - it hydrolyses phospholipids into fatty acids (liquifies shit)) is responsible for inducing dermal necrosis (which basically kills the skin tissues / causes cell death).
Anyway. Spiders regurgitate this digestive cocktail onto and into their prey in a process known as EOD - extra oral digestion (because it happens outside of the body).
Other enzymes present in spider venoms include hyaluronidases, astacins and serine peptidases.
Hyaluronidases degrade hyaluronic acids (hyaluronic acids are commonly used in skincare and are proven to help wound healing, reduce scarring and aid the skin’s elasticity).
Astacins help with the degradation of polypeptides - so again, they help break down proteins.
And that’s the bite size version of how spooders eat. Enjoy your soup.

zb1’s skincare routines
shanbin and zhang hao
THE husbands!!
i feel like they would have both had pretty intricate skincare routines and then exchanged stuff until at some point they just straight up share the same products
they definitely do the basics, cleanser, toner, moisturizer, and sunscreen
we know that shanbin also has those vitamins that he takes so i also see him taking collagen and vitamin c supplements
also some extras like retinol, serums, essence, oil cleansers, aha, bha, the list goes on
i think individually they know a lot about skincare and have perfected their routines and together they are just unstoppable
also feel like they use sulwhasoo or beauty of joseon
my guess would be
oil cleanser
water based cleanser
chemical exfoliator (occasionally!)
toner
essence
serums (at night!)
sheet mask (at night!)
eye cream
moisturizer
sunscreen (in the morning!)
and supplements
seok matthew
i actually have no idea with him
he definitely doesn’t seem as invested as haobin
his older sister gives me major skincare vibes though (she’s so cool can she adopt me i’m canadian too)
i think he mostly just picks stuff up from her
i can see him getting a lot of the stuff that trends on tiktok
like the snail mucin essence and sunscreen sticks
i feel like his skincare would be pretty light and gentle
an overall solid routine but he probably doesn’t know the details
my guess would be
makeup remover/micellular water
water based cleanser
pimple patch
toner
essence
moisturizer
sunscreen stick
ricky
ofc mr young and rich, tall and handsome probably has his own dermatologist who does weekly checkups and treatments
probably has custom made skincare if he even needs it at this point
can he pls share of that with the other boys because some of them really need it…(we’ll get to them later)
my guess would be
$$$$$$
gunwook
oh boy
this is when things start going downhill
honestly i think he has a very basic but clean routine
probably doesn’t bother with any treatments or serums
i don’t see him doing anything that wouldn’t be daily so probably no exfoliating for him either
i feel like he would stick to one brand too just to make things simpler
i’m thinking round lab
he’s probably done some research and it’s a very popular brand in korea
i can see him doing sheet masks too but more in a dog union sleepover animal face mask kind of way
pls why am i lowkey roasting him (T ^ T) in the 0% chance he reads this i’m sorry gunwook ily but you just don’t have that vibe pls tell me if i’m wrong though
my guess would be
foam cleanser (idk why gunwook feels very foam coded to me)
pimple patch
toner
moisturizer
sunscreen
taerae
they don’t call him fashion taeraerist for nothing
i don’t think his skincare routine would be any better tbh
like i simply cannot imagine anything except for hand soap or the all-in-one soap and both options scare me
i feel like as a trainee and then an idol his routine has got to be better though
i hope he got forced to use actual products
probably ended up with drugstore stuff (T ^ T)
so um my optimistic? guess is
cleanser
toner (maybe)
moisturizer
sunscreen (maybe)
gyuvin
same situation as taerae and gunwook but worse somehow
once again!!!!! i’m getting soap vibes from him
boy probably didn’t bring any skincare because we saw what his suitcase looked like
i’m not convinced he even uses skincare at this point (if that is the case i’m so jealous because how do i make my skin look like his)
either that or it’s super chaotic like the most illogical combination you’ve ever seen like only exfoliator and night cream
seems like the type to use skincare when there’s a problem if he even notices that there is a problem
alternatively there is this olay retinol spf moisturizer (my head hurts trying to think of the logistics of this) that i can see him using as his one and only skincare product

jiwoong
finally breaking the curse
jiwoong gives me major vegan good for the environment vibes
i mean he doesn’t even eat snacks so
i feel like he’d like the dr. ceuracle vegan kombucha stuff
also because he 100% drinks kombucha you can’t change my mind
i think his skincare routine is simple but well thought out! like haobin, he’s tried a lot of stuff out and has narrowed it down to the essentials
also probably uses de-aging stuff so he can be an immortal vampire
i can see him using those led face masks once in a while too
it probably freaked the other boys out so much the first time they saw it LMAO
he probably also has the most lifestyle habits to help his skin
like changing his pillowcases frequently, using conditioner that won’t cause acne, staying hydrated, avoiding oily food, etc
he legit is what i aspire to be if i had the same willpower that he does
my guess would be
micellular water
gel cleanser (idk he feels gel coded to me)
toner
essence
serum sheet mask
eye cream
moisturizer
slugging (at night)
sunscreen
yujin
our wildcard yujin!!
i literally have no idea i’m so sorry
i feel like he would pick up skincare either from his mom or maybe one of the stylists from yuehua or boys planet?
would probably just take recommendations from people around him
i’m feeling innisfree for him? might be because he sort of reminds me of wonyoung and ofc who can forget the iconic plump, glowing, hydration boost
my guess would be
water based cleanser
toner
essence
moisturizer
sunscreen
if you’ve made it this far, tysm for reading my random rambling! this is based off of no information except what i know about korean skincare and also what i thought the boys would be like based on their personalities. i couldn’t find bare faced photos for everybody or info on their actual routines but i’d love to find out! so if you know anything about that pls lmk!!

Achieving a Radiant Complexion: A Simple Nighttime Skincare Regimen
In our fast-paced lives, it's easy to overlook the significance of a proper nighttime skincare routine. However, dedicating a few minutes before bedtime can make a world of difference in achieving healthy, glowing skin. Let's delve into a straightforward nighttime skincare routine that will leave you feeling pampered and your skin revitalized!
Cleanse: The First Step to Radiance
The foundation of any effective skincare routine is cleansing. Before heading to bed, ensure your face is free from makeup, dirt, and pollutants that have accumulated throughout the day. Opt for a gentle cleanser suitable for your skin type. Gently massage it onto your face using circular motions, focusing on areas prone to oiliness or dryness. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water to preserve essential oils.
Recommendations:
Aprilskin Carrotene IPMP™ Hydromelt Cleansing Balm
JUNO & Co. Clean 10 Cleansing Balm 10 Ingredients Makeup Remover
La Roche-Posay Toleriane Purifying Foaming Facial Cleanser
Exfoliate: Unveiling a Fresh Canvas
Exfoliation is essential but limit it to 2-3 times a week to avoid overdoing it. A gentle exfoliant will remove dead skin cells, unclog pores, and enhance the absorption of your skincare products. Look for products with natural exfoliants like jojoba beads or alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs).
Recommendations:
SkinMedica AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser
Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant - Exfoliator
Paulas Choice--SKIN PERFECTING 2% BHA Liquid Salicylic Acid Exfoliant
Tone: Balancing the pH
After cleansing and exfoliating, toning comes into play. A toner helps balance the skin's pH levels and prepares it for better absorption of serums and moisturizers. Choose alcohol-free toners with soothing ingredients like rose water, chamomile, or witch hazel.
Recommendations:
PCA SKIN Nutrient Face Toner
THAYERS Alcohol-Free, Hydrating Lavender Witch Hazel Facial Toner
SOME BY MI AHA BHA PHA 30 Days Miracle Toner
Serum: Targeted Treatments
Serums are packed with potent ingredients that target specific skin concerns. Whether it's fine lines, hyperpigmentation, or dehydration, serums offer a concentrated boost of active ingredients. Gently apply a small amount to your face and neck, letting the serum work its magic overnight.
Recommendations:
COSRX Snail Mucin 96% Power Repairing Essence
Paula's Choice CLINICAL 1% Retinol Treatment
Derma ProGenix Advanced Anti-Aging Skin Care Serum
Eye Cream: Soothing and Refreshing
The delicate skin around the eyes requires special attention. Apply a nourishing eye cream to help reduce puffiness, dark circles, and fine lines. Use your ring finger to dab a pea-sized amount around the orbital bone gently.
Recommendations:
IMAGE Skincare, VITAL C Hydrating Eye Recovery Gel
Dongyu 5% Caffeine Eye Serum and Under Eye Roller Cream
QOI Dark Circle Eliminator
Hydrate: Locking in Moisture
Moisturizing is crucial to keep your skin hydrated and plump. Select a night cream or moisturizer that suits your skin type, whether it's gel-based for oily skin or thicker for dry skin. Massage it into your skin using upward strokes to promote better circulation.
Recommendations:
COSRX Snail Mucin 92% Moisturizer
Dermalogica Intensive Moisture Balance
PCA SKIN Collagen Hydrator Night Cream
Lip Care: Soft and Supple Lips
Don't forget to show your lips some love! Apply a nourishing lip balm or treatment to keep your lips soft and supple throughout the night.
Recommendation:
LANEIGE Lip Sleeping Mask
Overnight Mask or Face Oil: Nourishing and Repairing
For an extra boost of nourishment, consider using an overnight mask or face oil. These products provide intense hydration and repair your skin as you sleep, waking up to a fresh and revitalized complexion.
Hands and Feet: Extending Skincare Love
If you have a few extra minutes, pamper your hands and feet as well. Moisturize them with a rich cream and put on cotton gloves and socks before sleep, allowing the products to deeply penetrate and hydrate the skin.
Recommendations:
Paula's Choice Radiance Renewal Night Mask
LANEIGE Water Sleeping Mask
Beauty Sleep: The Ultimate Secret
Finally, the most essential part of any nighttime skincare routine is a good night's sleep. Aim for 7-9 hours of uninterrupted rest to give your skin and body the time they need to repair and rejuvenate.
Remember, Consistency is Key!
The true magic of any skincare routine lies in consistency. Don't expect overnight miracles; instead, practice this easy nighttime skincare routine regularly and patiently, and you'll soon notice a radiant and healthy complexion that makes the effort entirely worthwhile.
So, go ahead and treat yourself to a little nightly skincare ritual – your skin will thank you for it!

hello. i'm very intrigued by you calling your 4-5 step daily face care routine reasonably small and evidence based. that's a lot of effort to put on just your face! so basically i'm wondering what the evidence is saying, is it anything other than cosmetic? i understand that sunscreen prevents cancer but i don't understand daily toner and serums and such
Hi! It's not that much effort considering I don't wear makeup and it's like. 5 minutes max lol. The biggest resource sink is the money and trial-and-error aspect of developing the routine. But affordable products are out there.
The only thing that is really 100% necessary about my routine is the sunscreen and the cleansing. But then I have to moisturize after cleansing. So. That's 4 products alone right there.
I'm using "evidence based" in reference to the serums I alternate each night, which have been proven to work by actual dermatologists. There are studies anyone could find if they poked around, but the last I checked, the general consensus is that retinol (aka vitamin a) and vitamin c have the best data going for them. I also like their specific impact on my face-- retinol because I am 35 and I would like to manage the texture problems that come with hormonal shifts, vitamin c because it helps battle sun damage.
Years ago I looked into a lot of science-centered skincare content (YouTube and articles) to determine my routine:
Two step cleansing (oil and water) is useful because I use sunscreen, which is oil-based, in addition to dirt and sweat being water-based. If someone were to wear makeup that also would be best cleansed with a two-step process. I wash my face with an oil based cleanser at night and the water-based in the morning. This may not be optimal for the cleansing aspect but uh I have dry skin so I try to limit washing it too much.
I need moisturizer to repair the moisture barrier after cleansing. This is very necessary or my skin will feel dry and tight.
Sunscreen is obvious.
The chemical exfoliant gently removes dead skin cells. It's safer and more effective than scrubbing with a wash cloth, especially if I use it sparingly (only once a week). It's definitely not necessary but for me, anecdotally, it does help with texture maintenance.
I've already described the serums.
So yes, in comparison to a Guy Who Just Cleanses, this routine is pretty crazy. Compared to a lot of the content on Tik Tok tho??? Very reasonable and normal. I don't use face masks, toners, eye creams, endless serums, collagen, face peels, etc. etc. because they simply aren't necessary for me.
I hope this was a helpful answer! I'm happy to explain my reasoning. The fact is that I've expanded my routine as I've gotten older and my skin's gotten less "naturally good-looking." I certainly didn't need to do like half of this shit when I was 21.

November is National Skincare Month
Here are some healthy tips to support your skincare routine in November, and every month.
Wash up. Use warm water, not hot. Wash gently, don’t scrub. Take shorter showers. Longer showers tend to dry your skin.
Wash your face every morning and night. Always remove makeup before bed. Use skincare products that match your skin's needs. Is your skin oily, dry, normal, combination, or sensitive? Do you have a skin condition? Use products formulated for you. Avoid scented products, especially if you have sensitive skin or eczema.
Moisturize both night and day. The best times to moisturize are right after you get out of the shower, and right before you go to bed. Toners are a good way to help balance pH levels in your skin. Look for one that is free of irritants like alcohol, fragrance, citrus, menthol, color, and other strong extracts.
Vitamins should go on your skin, too. Serums and creams like Vitamin C are topical antioxidants, and can help nourish the skin. The skin around your eyes is the thinnest, so it shows the first signs of aging. Even in your 20s, preventative care will keep your eyes looking healthy for decades to come.
When applying eye cream, use circular motions to stimulate blood circulation and reduce fluid retention.
Clean makeup brushes thoroughly at least once a week.
Chose water-based hair products as ones made with oils and waxes can clog your pores and create acne.
Be sure to exfoliate once a week. As we age, skin cells turn over at a slower rate than they did in our 20s. Without exfoliating, dead skin cells can build up on your face and body, clogging pores, preventing products from penetrating. This makes your complexion look dull.
Avoid sun damage by wearing sunscreen 365 days a year, rain or shine. Protect your skin when you’re driving or running errands. UV exposure contributes to signs of aging.
Sun protection doesn't stop at sunscreen - SPF makeup, sunglasses, protective clothing & hats can help prevent damage, which is much better than treating it after the fact.
Don't just watch out for sun, also avoid excessive heat from heaters and fireplaces. It can also wreak havoc on your skin causing inflammation and collagen breakdown.
Don’t use tanning beds or sunlamps. They emit the same harmful UV radiation as the sun.
Drink plenty of water. Drinking water can improve your complexion, help prevent wrinkles and tighten your pores. Dehydrated skin will result in dry, tight, flaky aging skin.
Drinking green tea is also good for your skin as it helps reduce inflammation, improve elasticity, and can help protect you from sun damage. It also promotes cellular repair.
Avoid alcohol because alcohol dehydrates the skin. This causes wrinkles and inflames tissue in the skin. Don’t smoke - People who smoke often age prematurely, have uneven skin coloring and deeper wrinkles.
Eating a healthy diet is an important part of maintaining healthy skin. Eat blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, kale, dark chocolate and other foods that are high in antioxidants.
Avoid sugar spikes as they damage collagen that keeps skin youthful. Proteins in your skin also react poorly to excessive sugar and cause your skin to age faster. In addition, avoid processed foods. They can cause inflammation and damage collagen and elastic fibers in your skin.
Eat healthy fats such as those found in nuts, seeds, avocados, and extra virgin olive oil. They contain antioxidants that help keep skin cells healthy. Omega 3-fatty acids that are primarily found in fatty fishes such as salmon, mackerel, and herring can keep the skin supple and moisturized. Omega-3 supplements are important too!
Avoid excess sodium (salt) in your diet. Sodium can suck the moisture out of skin and leave it dull and dry.
Reduce stress. It can take a toll on nearly every part of your body, including your skin. Treat yourself! Whether it's a facial, massage, or even a pedicure, be sure to pamper yourself to help promote stress relief and relaxation.
Exercise to help boost blood flow, which also ensures that your skin is getting the oxygen and the nutrients it needs to be healthy.
Get enough sleep. Experts recommend about 9 hours a night for teens and 7-8 hours for adults. Try sleeping on clean, silk pillowcases and sheets. The material glides easily over the skin and helps prevent creasing and wrinkles. Sleeping in certain positions may result in sleep lines. After a while, these lines can turn into deep-set wrinkles, so hit the sheets on your back first.
Visit your dermatologist regularly for a full body skin exam to help detect skin cancers. Early detection of skin cancer can save your life.
Sanitize your phone. Pressing it up against your face after touching it with unwashed hands can spread bacteria and clog pores on your face. It can also cause painful pimples.
To kill the bacteria, try cleansing wipes with hydrogen peroxide and wipe down all surfaces of the phone regularly.
Take vitamins because healthy skin starts on the inside! Though you may not associate vitamins with your skincare routine, taking Herpanacine Skin & Immune Support daily is a simple thing you can do for your skin. Vitamin E protects the skin against free radicals and inflammation. Beta Carotene can help brighten your skin tone and increase yourskin's production of collagen and elastin. Herpanacine’s superior formulation of eleven powerful vitamins, herbs and powerful antioxidants do that, immune support and much more for your skin!

How to Shrink and Reduce the Appearance of Large Pores
Pores are supported by a collagen-rich structure that keeps them in place. This structure is made up of collagen and glycosaminoglycans in the deeper layers of the skin.
If the support structure weakens due to age or environmental factors, the pores can sag, dilate, and become more visible.
How to Strengthen the Support Structure:
Protect What You Have: The main enemy of collagen is UV radiation from the sun, which breaks down collagen and damages the support structure. Sunscreen (broad-spectrum, SPF 30 or higher) applied regularly can prevent UV damage, maintaining the strength of the support system.
Boost Collagen Production: Use skincare ingredients like retinoids, vitamin C, and niacinamide, which are known to stimulate collagen production. Treatments like microneedling and dermaplaning can also promote collagen production in the skin.
2. Excess Sebum (Oil) Production
Sebaceous glands produce oil that moves through the pores.
When excess oil is produced, it enlarges the bowl-shaped structure at the base of the pore, causing the pore to dilate and become more visible.
How to Control Oil Production:
Use products containing niacinamide, which research shows can regulate sebum production.
Limit sugar intake. High sugar consumption increases insulin levels, which stimulates oil production. Reducing sugar can help keep oil levels in check.
3. Clogged Pores
When pores become clogged with dirt, dead skin cells, excess oil, and makeup, the bowl-like structure of the pore enlarges.
This causes the pore opening to become more noticeable.
How to Unclog Pores:
Remove Makeup Thoroughly: Always remove makeup at the end of the day to prevent clogged pores.
Avoid Comedogenic Ingredients: Be cautious of skincare products containing ingredients that may clog pores (comedogenic ingredients).
Cleanse Regularly: Regular cleansing helps remove dirt and oil from the skin's surface.
Exfoliate with BHA: Use a BHA (beta hydroxy acid) like salicylic acid regularly. Salicylic acid penetrates deep into pores, unclogging them by removing dirt and oil from the inside.
4. Imbalanced Keratinization
Keratinization is the process by which new skin cells are produced and old cells are shed.
When this process slows down, old skin cells remain on the surface, causing pores to appear larger as the skin thickens.
How to Normalize Keratinization:
Exfoliate Regularly: Use chemical exfoliants like AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids) or BHAs (beta hydroxy acids), such as glycolic acid, lactic acid, or salicylic acid to remove dead skin cells and promote smoother skin.
Boost Cell Turnover: Retinoids are effective in speeding up cell turnover, ensuring that new skin cells are formed regularly and old cells are removed efficiently.
5. Avoid Squeezing Pores
Physically squeezing or manipulating pores can make them appear larger. While it may be tempting to pop blackheads or squeeze pores, this can actually stretch and distort the pore, making it look worse.
What to Do Instead:
Avoid touching or squeezing your pores. Instead, stick to proper cleansing and exfoliation routines to keep them clear and healthy.
Bonus Tip: Hormonal Fluctuations During Menstruation
During menstruation, increased levels of progesterone can stimulate oil production, leading to clogged pores. This can make the pores appear larger.
How to Manage Hormonal Breakouts:
Cleanse your face regularly during this time, and ensure you're exfoliating with a BHA to prevent clogged pores.
Recap: How to Shrink the Appearance of Large Pores
Strengthen the Support Structure: Protect your skin with sunscreen and boost collagen production with ingredients like retinoids, niacinamide, and vitamin C.
Control Sebum Production: Use niacinamide and reduce sugar intake to prevent excess oil production.
Unclog Pores: Remove makeup, avoid comedogenic ingredients, cleanse regularly, and exfoliate with a BHA like salicylic acid.
Balance Keratinization: Regularly exfoliate and use retinoids to maintain smooth skin and prevent old cells from clogging pores.
Avoid Squeezing Pores: Leave your pores alone and let proper skincare routines do the work.
By addressing these five causes of enlarged pores, you can significantly reduce their appearance and enjoy smoother, clearer skin.

Tired of those pesky under-eye wrinkles making you look older or more tired than you feel? You're not alone! At Comfort Mind Body, we're all about bringing back that youthful sparkle to your eyes—without the stress. 💫
Why Do Under-Eye Wrinkles Happen? The skin under your eyes is super delicate, which means it's one of the first places to show signs of aging. From smiling and squinting to sun exposure and lack of sleep, those fine lines can sneak up on you fast. But don’t worry, we’ve got the perfect plan to help you smooth things out. 💆♀️
Your Under-Eye Wrinkle-Smoothing Strategy:
Stay Hydrated: Dehydration is a big culprit when it comes to wrinkles. Drink plenty of water and use a hydrating eye cream to keep your skin plump and smooth. 💧
Retinol Rescue: Incorporating a retinol-based eye cream into your nightly routine can work wonders by boosting collagen production and reducing fine lines. 🌟
Sleep on Silk: Ditch your cotton pillowcase for a silk one. Silk is gentler on your skin and can help prevent those pesky sleep lines that can turn into permanent wrinkles. 😴
Sun Protection is a Must: The sun’s UV rays can seriously speed up the aging process. Always apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen and wear sunglasses to protect the delicate skin around your eyes. 🕶️
Gentle Touch: When applying makeup or skincare products, be gentle. Tugging and pulling at the skin can contribute to wrinkle formation over time. 👄
Lifestyle Tweaks for Brighter Eyes:
Catch Those Z’s: Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night. Your skin regenerates while you snooze, so don't skimp on your beauty rest! 💤
Healthy Diet, Healthy Skin: Incorporate foods rich in antioxidants, like berries and leafy greens, to nourish your skin from the inside out. 🥗
